About Us

The Mission

Tilted Field is a theatrical lab for telling stories in bold new ways; we develop, create and produce these stories with the brave artists we’re committed to serving

The Values

Community: We count on our people. Our artistic ensemble is intrinsic to the creation, development, and execution of our projects. And with all of the work we produce, we always think deeply about all of our audiences and the access they have to experience these stories.

Rebellion: We strive to push the boundaries of how, and which, stories are told in popular media. And we appreciate irreverence.

Relevance: We choose projects based on the urgency with which the story needs to be told. We will produce these projects in whatever mode – or variety of modes – best serves the story.

Theatrical Roots: We remain committed to the values we have learned as theater artists and producers – the narrative arts serve the most ancient and universal of human desires and we honor that, from beginning to end, in all of our work we create and produce.

The Inspiration

At Tilted Field we are inspired by the work created by many artists from all different genres. The following artists are whom we receive some of our richest inspiration: Tim Burton (Nightmare Before Christmas), Stephen Daldry (The Hours, Billy Elliot on Broadway), John Water (Hairspray), Henry Selick (Coraline), Liz LeCompte (founding member, The Wooster Group), Jim Jarmusch (Dead Man), Spike Lee (Do The Right Thing), David Milch (NYPD Blue, Deadwood on HBO), Elrfriede Jelinek (Dead Man), Marc Foster (Monster’s Ball, Finding Neverland), Toni Collette (Little Miss Sunshine), Pedro Almodóvar (Volver), and Luis Valdez (La Bamba).
